The Joys of Old Age

The many stages of a lifetime can be daunting at times – inabilities to conform or adjust or produce or please; dissatisfaction with goals and promises to God and family and self; and inspiration to leave this world better than I found it.

At the age of 83, I found yet another new joy of old age by meeting my first great-grandchild and holding her on an almost daily basis as I watch her parents and grandparents nurture her into a loving, happy child.  What a blessing these years have provided!

But there is more!  A second one is on the way!  This great grandchild will require visits in both directions but I have even learned that long visits give more time for close relationships and new identities.  Once, again, I know the new parents and grandparents will offer all that life and love can supply.

ALSO, the future baby’s uncle –  that would be my grandchild – has just returned to us at Kitchen Kettle Village after a most interesting post-college career.  The third generation at Kitchen Kettle is expanding!  One more new joy of old age.

WOW! Let me change my first adjective to “undaunted” or fearless for life has been both difficult and very good to me.  I am still allowed to enjoy the greetings of our many long time visitors and friends at Kitchen Kettle while I watch my family evolve, explore and come home again.

Hallelujah!
